How many people ignored the thickness of the brake pads?

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-9-30] [Hits:] [Return]

In general, the service life of the front brake pads is usually 2~4W km, and that of the rear brake pads is 6~10W km. The actual service life is related to the driving habits. The service life of the brakes may be lower than the original design life when braking at high speed and accelerating rapidly.

Therefore, owners should learn to judge whether they need to repair the brake system. Please pay attention to the following situations!

1、 Brake pad thickness judgment

The thickness of the new brake pad is generally about 1.5cm. The thickness of the left hand brake pad is about 0.5cm, and the thickness of the right hand brake pad is about 0.1cm, as shown in the red bar (above figure). When it is observed that the thickness of the brake pad is less than 0.5cm, attention should be paid to it. If it is less than 0.3cm, it needs to be replaced immediately.

2、 Judgment of abnormal braking noise

When braking gently, there is a harsh sound. The feeling of goose bumps is that the extreme iron plate is rubbing. At this time, the brake pads should be replaced immediately. In addition, when the brake disc has grooves, rust, or uneven eccentric wear, it will also make a similar abnormal noise.

If the brake is accompanied by "hum hum" intermittent sound, it is possible that the guide pin of the brake wheel cylinder lacks lubrication and causes eccentric wear of the brake pads. This is a very serious problem. It is necessary to add lubricating oil to the guide pin in time to restore it to its original working state.

Of course, there are also some models that make abnormal noises when braking without any problems. Pay more attention to identify them.

3、 Judge the brake force and brake pad stroke

Feel the change of brake force when stepping on the brake. When you step on the brake, you always feel very hard, or the brake is not as sensitive as before, and you need to step on the desired braking effect with more force than before. When emergency braking occurs, you feel that the pedal position becomes lower and the brake pedal travel becomes longer, which means that your brake pads must be checked as soon as possible.

4、 Look at the fault alarm lamp on the instrument panel

The simplest way is to look at the fault alarm light on the instrument panel. However, it should be noted that the flashing of this light is not the brake system as we call it, but the brake pad wear indicator alone. However, this light is not unique to ordinary cars. Only some high-end cars can have it. Some of these warning systems directly sense the thickness of the brake pads, while others will light up only when the brake pads have been completely worn out and the brake oil has dropped extremely.
