Discuss the friction coefficient and material of brake pad

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-8-5] [Hits:] [Return]

Brake pad is also called brake pad. The main function of its friction material is to generate friction with the brake disc surface when the vehicle is braked, so as to achieve the braking force. Therefore, it is an important part of the brake pad structure.

Friction coefficient is a parameter of the friction efficiency of brake pads and an important index of the quality of brake pads. Apply a force to the horizontal plane to make a 100kg object move. The force is equal to its self weight, that is, the friction coefficient between the object and the ground is 1, so what is the friction coefficient of the brake pad?

The friction coefficient of the brake pad is the friction coefficient of the brake pad, which has a high friction coefficient. The greater the braking friction is, the more sensitive the braking is. By reducing the force of pressing, the vehicle can obtain better braking effect. If the friction coefficient of the brake pad is too high or too low, the braking performance will be affected.

If the friction coefficient is too large, the brake will cause tire locking, or it is too sensitive, and the comfort and heat resistance will be poor; If the friction coefficient is too low, there will be brake failure, which is bad and will pose a serious threat to driving safety. Under normal conditions, the friction coefficient of the brake pad is 0.3-0.4.

Now let's talk about the friction materials of brake pads:

Generally speaking, the friction materials of brake pads mainly include four aspects: basic materials, filling materials, wear additives and reinforcing fibers. The proportion of these materials in different products is different, depending on different uses and friction coefficients. In addition, the friction materials used by different grades of vehicles and disc brake pads are also different from drum brake pads. For brake friction pads, the preparation of friction materials is more important. The braking effect, wear resistance, temperature resistance and other properties of the brake pad will affect the relative proportion of each component.

At present, the common friction materials in the market can be divided into four types according to the basic materials. Asbestos, semi metal, low metal, Nao ceramic formula (i.e. asbestos free organic matter). Next, let's take a specific look at the brake pads made of different materials.

1. Asbestos formula: it has been banned for environmental protection.

2. Semi metal mixed material formula: "semi metal" mixed brake pads mainly use 30-50% of "ferroalloy" as reinforcing fiber, and combine it with important mixtures. It has the advantages of good heat dissipation and good heat attenuation performance. However, due to high hardness, noise is easily generated.

3. Low metal hybrid brake pads: "low metal" hybrid brake pads are mainly reinforced with less than 10% iron and non-ferrous metals. It is characterized by moderate hardness, comfortable braking, high braking sensitivity and low braking noise

4. Ceramic formula: ceramic formula is the current research and development direction of brake pad friction material formula. Asbestos materials developed earlier are mainly reinforced with glass fiber, aramid fiber and other fibers (carbon, ceramics, etc.). Moreover, the ceramic formula has good braking comfort, low braking noise, long service life, and is cleaner and more environmentally friendly. However, due to the performance of the material itself, the braking force is relatively low, and it is generally used for Japanese and Korean models. Pure ceramic formula should not be used for heavy body vehicles such as European and American vehicles.
