Can the brake disc touch water? What if it rains? Do you need to change it often

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-7-6] [Hits:] [Return]

To evaluate the quality of a car, you should not only run fast, but also brake well. The brake disc is one of the most important parts of the brake. Most braking systems of modern cars are caliper braking systems. The pressure in the brake caliper pushes the friction between the brake pad and the brake disc, so as to achieve the purpose of deceleration braking.

However, many car owners' improper use will often lead to the deformation of the brake disc, resulting in the occurrence of brake jitter. You must have heard such a sentence: "watering the brake disc will lead to uneven cooling and deformation of the brake disc", but in actual driving, you do encounter passive watering of the brake disc, such as rainy and snowy weather, such as driving on a flooded road in summer. What should you do at this time?

The metal brake disc is made of cast iron, which is very wear-resistant and low cost, but the cast iron is very fragile and easy to crack when cooled at high temperature. More seriously, high temperature and water may harden the surface of the brake disc, resulting in an increase in surface hardness, thereby affecting the friction coefficient, directly leading to less powerful braking than before.

Therefore, it is reasonable to say that the brake disc is afraid of water. But the premise is that there is enough temperature. The temperature of the brake disc is all from friction. Of course, the more brakes are used, the heavier the brakes are pressed, the more heat is generated, and the higher the temperature of the brake disc.

The most common case of high brake disc temperature in domestic vehicles is the continuous use of the brake for a long time. For example, some drivers do not know how to use the engine brake to help control the speed on continuous downhill roads, and press the brake all the way to control the speed. This operation, not to mention the temperature rise of the brake disc, will even lead to a serious decrease in braking force.

If you want to avoid braking for a long time, you should learn to use the engine braking force to control the speed. The method of manual shift is to shift gears without depressing the clutch. If you feel that the speed is still out of control, you can reduce one gear to improve the engine braking force

Some cars may not be easy to shift into low gear when driving at high speed. At this time, you can slow down first and then shift into gear. However, with the current transmission technology, it is basically easy to complete the downshift operation. Although the water can be cooled, it is impossible to cover the whole brake pad evenly at the same time by watering, which will lead to water in individual places and serious shrinkage, and there is no problem for people who do not touch the water.

At this time, there will be a clear contrast. Finally, you will find that the whole brake disc cannot work at all, thus affecting the braking effect. Except that the brake disc cannot be watered under high temperature, the brake disc is not afraid of rain, but there will be another phenomenon, that is, the brake disc will rust.
