Why are there so many usage taboos for new brake pads? There is only one truth!

Why is it recommended to avoid emergency braking for new vehicles in running in period?

Note that the words "try" and "avoid" appear at the same time. You can't say you don't recommend using the emergency brake. You should use the emergency brake at any time. There is no need to raise the bar here.

All parts of the new car are basically brand-new, so are the brake discs, which are difficult to reach the absolute level. Therefore, the discs of the new car will have a running in process. Relatively speaking, low-speed slow braking is more conducive to the running in of the brake discs. In other words, it is similar to sandpaper polishing, and the finer the better in the end.

However, frequent emergency braking at the initial stage of running in of a new car is unfavorable to the running in of the brake disc. It is simply understood that violent friction is unfavorable to the horizontal running in of the disc.

The larger the contact area of the disc, the better the braking effect. After rough running in, the contact area may not be maximized, and the braking effect may not be the best.

Why does the braking distance become longer after the replacement of new brake pads?

It is reasonable to say that the braking distance will be shortened after the replacement of new brake pads, but this is only in the imagination stage.

Although we have replaced the new brake pads, the original brake discs may not be replaced. The old brake discs run in perfectly with the previous brake pads, and the braking effect is achieved on the premise of disc running in. However, the new brake pads that were later replaced have not been run in with the old brake discs, so the braking effect is reduced.

Some people will have doubts. The larger the contact area of the disc, the better the braking effect. Can the rear replaced brake pads still achieve the best effect?

The data shows that the maximum braking effect can be achieved when the contact area of the disc reaches more than 75%. Therefore, the new brake disc can play its maximum effect as long as it passes the running in period.

The running in period of a new brake disc generally needs 200-300 km. This data is also applicable to the running in of the brake disc of most new cars.

Conclusion: it is better to replace the brake pads according to the recommended specifications of the original vehicle, which is also in line with your driving habits. Replace the soft or hard brake pads. In the later stage, you not only need to run in the brake pads, but also need the driver to adapt to the soft and hard brakes.
