The brake makes a strange noise. Do you want to replace the brake pads?

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-1-19] [Hits:] [Return]

Generally, cars with disc brake are prone to abnormal braking sound. The main reason for the abnormal braking sound fault is that the brake pad rubs the brake disc violently during braking. Therefore, the troubleshooting of abnormal braking sound fault mainly starts from the brake pad and brake disc, and then extends to other parts, such as brake cylinder.

Abnormal brake noise of new car running in and new brake pads and brake discs

A new car or a new brake disc will have a running in period. During the running in period, there will be some abnormal noise, which will be eliminated after running for hundreds of kilometers.

If there are metal hard spots on the brake pad, there will be some small metal particles inside the brake pad. Gently stepping on the brake will make a sharp and harsh sound. For this problem, you can step on the brake with a few feet, remove the brake pad, re polish the corners and edges of the brake pad, or replace the brake pad with a better quality.

Causes of abnormal braking noise during normal use of automobile

Normal start signal of ABS system

During emergency braking, the brake pedal will make a continuous "click" sound, and sometimes bounce feet, which indicates that the ABS system is started, which is a normal sound. At this time, it is OK to brake vigorously and press it to the bottom, but it is only limited to vehicles equipped with ABS system.

Alarm for severe brake pad wear

Serious wear of brake pads will also produce abnormal braking sound. Generally, the brake pads will have alarm pads. When the brake pads are worn to the limit, the alarm pads will rub with the brake disc and produce sharp metal friction sound. At this time, the brake pads must be replaced in time to avoid scratching the brake disc and brake failure and avoid accidents.

The brake disc is severely worn

If it is the wear of the brake disc that causes the abnormal brake sound, the brake disc will form a deep groove in one circle of the disc, and the friction between the brake pad and the edge of the groove will produce abnormal sound.

If the groove is not particularly deep, it can be solved by grinding the edge of the brake pad to avoid the friction between the brake pad and the edge of the groove

If the groove is already very deep, it is recommended to replace the brake disc.

It is generally recommended to replace the brake disc every two times after replacing the brake pad.

Failure of brake cylinder return

Most of the problems are the brake pipe. Rust in the brake pipe or dirty lubricating oil will lead to poor return. Clean the brake pipe, polish it with fine sandpaper and apply new lubricating oil. There may also be a problem with the brake cylinder. The brake cylinder needs to be replaced, but there are few such failures.

Matching problem of brake guide pipe / caliper

In addition to being dirty and stuck, the brake pipe may also be due to the excessive fit clearance between the brake pipe and the brake caliper, resulting in abnormal noise. Replace the brake pipe or brake caliper with a new one (generally replace the brake caliper, because the hole diameter of the brake caliper may become larger due to wear, while the wear of the brake pipe is relatively small), Or wrap a layer of waterproof tape on the brake pipe to reduce the fit clearance.

Abnormal noise when reversing and pressing the brake

Generally, the brake works most of the time when the vehicle is moving forward, so the wear of the brake pad in one direction for a long time will correspondingly cause some burrs on the reversing surface. When the vehicle is reversing, when the vehicle is stepping on the brake when reversing, the burrs will make abnormal noise due to friction with the brake disc. In this case, it can not be solved, You can also go to the 4S store or repair shop to remove it and polish it, or you can replace better brake pads.

When you step on the brake in reverse, you will hear a "click" sound

This is the abnormal noise caused by the brake caliper moving upward due to friction and hitting the upper bracket.

It is generally a normal phenomenon. If the abnormal noise is large, it may need to be repaired.

The brake makes a strange noise when the car starts cold

Because the temperature is low, the rubber parts of the suspension part are relatively hard, and the surface of the brake disc and brake pad will also change. At this time, there will be a strange noise when starting. It will be fine when the car is hot.

There is foreign matter between the brake disc and the brake disc, resulting in abnormal braking sound

Small stones or water film between the brake disc and the brake pad will also produce abnormal braking noise. Generally, this kind of phenomenon may occur when driving after walking through the gravel road, windy and sandy weather or just washing the car. At this time, just step on the brake a few more feet, or remove the small stones.

Abnormal noise of suspension, chassis and other parts

Check the shock-absorbing fixing screws, balance bar rubber sleeves, ball joints, chassis screws and other components to see if they are loose or aging. This abnormal noise can be experienced when braking hard or bumpy roads.

The brake makes an abnormal noise after the car has been parked for a long time

If you step on the brake after parking for a long time, there will be a "bang", especially after the weather is wet or rainy. This is because the brake disc pads have been rusted after a long time of use. You can solve it after driving for a while. If you can't, you can only replace the brake disc.

Abnormal braking noise after vehicle maintenance

For the assembly problem of the brake pad, try to reinstall the brake pad and apply butter or special lubricating oil to the connection between the brake pad and the brake caliper.

It is also possible that the brake pads are installed reversely and can be reassembled. Especially if a novice in auto repair has replaced the brake pads, we should pay more attention to this
