Which is better, disc brake or drum brake?

[Catalog:News] [Date:2021-1-20] [Hits:] [Return]

Apart from the accelerator pedal, the longest pedal we step on is the brake pedal. In addition to running fast, the brakes should also be flexible. Today, I'd like to give you a brief introduction to our familiar and unfamiliar brake discs.

As the most important part of the car, the braking system is the system we use every time we drive, and its core component is the brake. At present, the most common are drum brake and disc brake, we usually call them drum brake and disc brake. These two kinds of brakes are very different in structure, braking principle, advantages and disadvantages, but many car owners can't distinguish them. Today, we will introduce their differences, advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, from the structural principle, the rotating component of the drum brake is the brake drum, and the fixed component is the brake shoe. When braking, the piston pushes the inner side of the two semicircular arc brake shoes to move outward, causing friction with the brake drum moving at the same speed as the wheel, thus generating braking force and slowing down the wheel.

From the advantages and disadvantages of the two, the brake drum and brake shoe of drum brake are closely combined, the contact area is large, and the friction and braking force of drum brake are also larger than that of disc brake. Secondly, the drum brake has simpler structure and lower manufacturing cost. However, due to the overall structure of the drum brake is closed, so the relative seal, heat dissipation and drainage is also relatively poor. Therefore, the drum brake is basically used for commercial vehicles, and some buses with lower prices will also be used.

The advantages and disadvantages of disc brake and drum brake are almost complementary. The disc brake is directly exposed to the air, and the heat generated can be taken away by the air flow, which has good heat dissipation and drainage performance. In addition, when the brake is continuously applied, there will be no heat recession leading to brake failure. Its disadvantage is that the drum brake has no automatic tension action, the braking area is small, and the braking torque is not large enough. Although the braking force and braking effect of disc brake is not as good as drum brake, its heat dissipation is better, and it is more suitable for combining with the braking frequency and load of passenger cars. Therefore, disc brake is also widely used in the field of passenger cars

Disc brake and drum brake have their own advantages. It is not said that the drum brake is worse than the disc brake, and there are two brake systems combined into one. In some cars, the hand brake system uses drum brake to achieve parking. The outer part of the rear brake disc is disc brake and the inner part is drum brake. No matter what kind of brake, it can ensure our driving safety. A friend asked what a recession is. Thermal decay is usually called brake thermal decay, which is a phenomenon of insufficient braking force and longer braking distance with the increase of braking times.
