What is brake pad friction material

Brake pad is also called brake pad, the main function of its friction material is in the car brake and brake disc surface friction, in order to achieve the effect of the brake.Therefore, it deserves to be the most important part of the brake pad structure.

Generally speaking, the friction material of brake pad mainly consists of four parts: basic material, filling material, grinding agent and reinforcing fiber.The proportion of these materials in different products varies, depending on different applications and different friction coefficients.In addition, different grades of cars and disc brake pads and drum brake pads used by the friction material is not the same.For brake friction plate, the most important thing is the formula of friction material.The final effect of brake pad braking, wear resistance, temperature resistance and other properties will depend on the relative proportions of different components.
At present, the common friction materials on the market can be divided into asbestos, semi-metal, low metal, NAO ceramic formula (namely, non-asbestos organic type) 4 kinds.Let's take a closer look at these different brake pads.
Asbestos formula: it has been banned for environmental reasons.
Formula of 02 semi-metal mixture material: "semi-metal" mixture brake pads are mainly made of 30-50% "ferrous metal" as reinforcement fibers and important mixtures.The main advantage is its excellent heat dissipation ability, thermal degradation performance is good.But because the hardness is relatively high, easy to produce noise.
03 low metal mixture brake pad: "low metal" mixture brake pad is mainly used within 10% ferrous metal and non-ferrous metal as reinforcement fiber.Main advantages: moderate hardness, good brake comfort, high brake sensitivity, low brake noise.

04 Ceramic formula: NAO/ ceramic formula is the development trend of brake pad friction material formula research and development.The research and development of NAO formula in the early stage is mainly used to replace the traditional asbestos materials. It mainly USES glass fiber, arylon fiber or other fibers (carbon, ceramic, etc.) as reinforcement materials.

NAO/ ceramic formula has the advantages of good brake comfort, low brake noise, long service life, cleaner and environmental protection.However, due to the characteristics of the material itself, the braking force is relatively low, which is generally used in Japanese and Korean models.European and American car systems and other heavy car body is not suitable for the use of pure ceramic formula.
